Review of the DVD

"The verbal instructions are beautifully coordinated with visuals, and the chef is a natural teacher: He explains not only the what and the how, but also the why of things he is demonstrating... Moreover, the recipes are presented with the modern cook and the modern kitchen in mind... [The chef's] delivery is friendly and inspires confidence. Instead of being overwhelmed, the viewer is encouraged.... the chef/host is personable and likeable; he smiles a lot and you are actually inclined to smile right back, a definite plus for those of us who see the kitchen as a mysterious labyrinth and culinary arts something akin to voodoo."

About Us

Ukraivin Productions® was created in 2005 by Director and Executive Producer Tatiana Terleckyj (center), along with co-creators and producers, Marijka Lischak (left), and Katerina Sloniewsky-Ntep (right). We grew up in Ukrainian-American households and learned traditional Ukrainian cooking from our mothers, grandmothers, and aunts who were masterful cooks in their own right. We're grateful for their wonderful guidance, motivation, and inspiration and our DVD is lovingly dedicated to them.

Our chef and host, Pavlo Czerwoniak takes the viewer, step-by-step, through each recipe using time and labor-saving techniques (see video clips). The viewer will learn how to overcome the often overwhelming task of putting together a traditional 12 course Ukrainian Christmas Eve meal. Chef Pavlo provides marvelously easy-to-follow instructions for each of the dishes. His approach is enhanced by tips on how to make life easier in the kitchen, whether within the context of preparing for Christmas Eve or in the context of general cooking.

Our DVD also features traditional Ukrainian Christmas carols performed on bandura by multi-faceted performer and accomplished artist Olya Chodoba-Fryz who has been entertaining audiences for nearly 30 years. The bandura is a unique 58-stringed national musical instrument of Ukraine that resembles the sound of both the lute and harp. For more information on Olya's music, please visit

If you stumbled across our website, we're inclined to believe you have a love of cooking. We hope you'll embrace our much-loved traditional recipes and find the inspiration to try your hand, or learn new techniques in your kitchen, in making our favorite Ukrainian dishes.

Enjoy your meal, or as we say in Ukrainian, smachnoho!
